Hearing loss is a common condition among older Australians, with prevalence increasing from about 50% in adults aged 60 to 70, to 70% of those aged 70 and over, and 80% of those aged 80 and over. Hearing loss can have a significant impact on an individual's well-being, affecting communication, social interactions, and overall quality of life. This presentation will review current research on the relationship between hearing loss and well-being in older adults, examining the effects of hearing loss on cognitive function, physical activity, and psychosocial well-being. The presentation will also discuss the importance of early identification and will provide recommendations for intervention solutions for hearing loss in older adults. The presentation will demonstrate the importance of addressing hearing loss in older adults as a key aspect of promoting and maintaining overall well-being.
